Neyris

Ethereal. Graceful. Pragmatic.

Amphibious natives of the aquatic world of Yris, the Neyris were a simple people with minimal technology before the arrival of the Tarreen Empire many centuries ago. Their bondage was immediate and brutal, as they were forced to mine the depths of their own oceans for rare minerals to fuel Tarreen expansion. The rampant extraction eventually destroyed ecosystems across the planet, polluting the oceans and killing most of the life within.

Like many other species, the Neyris were saved by the Seraph’s rebellion, though they never found a place within the Dominion. With their home planet ruined, the Neyris had already spread across much of the galaxy, and within a generation they had founded numerous criminal syndicates in Dominion space.

While many of the Neyris who accompanied the Expansionary Fleet were those with nowhere else to turn, some were specifically planted by the syndicates in the hopes of expanding “business” to new frontier worlds. While the Veil foiled the plan of the original syndicates, new ones took their place. Today, nearly every Neyris colony in Dominion space is ruled by a potent crime family who have influence across the Cluster.

Centuries of bondage to governments and crime lords has had a major impact on Neyris society and culture. While they were once a deeply spiritual people like the Angoth, today many Neyris are cynical pragmatists who see the galaxy as a relentless contest for survival.

Much of Neyris culture in the Cluster is dictated by the crime family who rules the given territory. The Kiru Saad is very corporate, emphasizing growth and profitability, while the Ibiz Aral adamantly espouses loyalty to the family.
