Ruthless. Silent. Unknowable.
The Dowd are an ancient race of faceless aliens whose origins are shrouded in mystery. Hundreds of years ago, before the arrival of the Dominion’s Expansionary Fleet, the Dowd were locked in a long, brutal war with the Sillibar and the Yarasi—a war they were on the verge of winning. With their vast fleets of swarm ships, the Dowd nearly drove the Sillibar to extinction during a campaign of unmitigated violence called the Patheon Genocide. But the Dominion fleet and its strange technology turned the tide in the war, and the surviving Dowd eventually vanished into the depths of the Veil.
Over the past two centuries since their retreat, the Dowd have slowly fallen into myth. Despite persistent rumors of random attacks in the Stygian Drift, no one has ever presented proof of Dowd involvement. But the Sillibar have remained ever vigilant, founding the Pact not only as a defense against the Dominion, but as a bulwark against the return of their ancient foes.
Little is known about Dowd motivations or physiology, but they possess a unique ability similar to echolocation that allows them to perceive the universe around them. In battle, they are fanatical and ruthless, with no regard for the sovereignty of life—including their own. Dowd warriors are more than willing to sacrifice themselves in order to destroy their enemies.
