Kali

Brilliant. Calm. Calculating.

Known across the galaxy for their collected demeanor, technical prowess, and scales that change color based on their mood, the Kali seek to understand the mysteries of the galaxy and all its wonders.

A historically reclusive people, the Kali avoided contact with outsiders as long as possible before their conquest by the Tarreen Empire. Their liberation by the Seraph and her loyal followers drove them into the arms of the Dominion, though their inherent resistance to telepathy and psionic attacks made them pariahs in many circles of power. Still, a contingent of Kali colonists joined the Expansionary Fleet on its journey to the Cluster.

Most Kali now live on the colony of New Kalifax, a warm planet with many lush jungles and arid plains. The world has not experienced the same discontent and poverty as many other settlements in the Dominion Colonies, in no small part due to the many Kali-led corporations who research and sell new technologies across the Cluster.

Kali culture and society is highly rational, secular, and slow-paced. While they are often considered cold by outsiders, their culture fosters a different type of spirituality focused on personal discovery and enlightenment. Gender has little meaning in modern life, though in the early days of interstellar flight, only unbound males were typically allowed to leave Kalifax.

Kali are typically awake and alert for about a week at a time, at which point they enter a three-day hibernation cycle. Beforehand, they ingest a large amount of food—typically insects and worms with high amounts of protein. During the cycle, they heal incredibly quickly.
